Screed and concrete are consisted of similar materials and look much alike when cured. But they possess different qualities and are not usually used for the same purposes. Concrete is used where the requirement is for a strong, functional, solid base. Screed tends to be less robust, so it is often used as the finish or top layer for concrete floors.

Screed consists of soil-like types of concrete mixed with fine parts of sand and cement. When it is dry the maximum size of grain of aggregate is approx 4mm. When screed mixes with water, it provides a much smoother finish than concrete, hence it is often used over uneven or rough concrete to give it a neater, more even finish.

The fine texture of our ready mixed screed makes it ideal for creating an ultra-smooth finish to all types of flooring including concrete, and it is also an excellent conductor of heat. It is frequently applied over the top of under floor heating pipework for its heat-retaining qualities, increasing its efficiency and saving costs in the process.
